La fame e l\u2019insicurezza alimentare sono problemi diffusi.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Secondo lo Stato della sicurezza alimentare e della nutrizione nel mondo –\u00a0State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World<\/a>\u00a0(2019), nel 2018 pi\u00f9 di 820 milioni di persone nel mondo soffrivano ancora la fame. \u00c8 probabile che questo problema peggiori dato il previsto aumento della popolazione mondiale e lo stress sui beni naturali.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0risorse in tempi di pesca industriale e agricoltura insostenibili.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Michael Fakhri \u00e8 professore presso la School of Law dell’Universit\u00e0 dell’Oregon, dove tiene corsi su diritti umani, diritto alimentare, sviluppo e diritto commerciale.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00c8 l\u2019attuale relatore speciale delle Nazioni Unite, concentrandosi sul diritto al cibo e sulla garanzia di una pesca sostenibile su piccola scala.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Riferisce al Consiglio per i diritti umani e ha chiesto contributi entro la fine di novembre 2023.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mundus maris<\/em>\u00a0\u00e8 stata tra le tante organizzazioni che hanno presentato un contributo al Relatore Speciale.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Poich\u00e9 sosteniamo le organizzazioni di pesca artigianale, in particolare nell\u2019Africa occidentale, abbiamo aderito a un contributo sviluppato con particolare attenzione agli effetti dannosi sulle comunit\u00e0 costiere dell\u2019esplorazione, dello sfruttamento e del trasporto di petrolio e gas in mare.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0“Dall’esplorazione e trivellazione dei fondali marini, alla lavorazione costiera, alle condutture sottomarine e al trasporto oltreoceano di combustibili fossili: l’attivit\u00e0 offshore di petrolio e gas rappresenta una minaccia crescente per i diritti, i mezzi di sussistenza e la sicurezza alimentare dei pescatori di tutto il mondo. I progetti offshore\u00a0<\/span><\/span>crescono di numero e oggi rappresentano oltre il 30% della produzione globale di petrolio e gas\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Poich\u00e9 le comunit\u00e0 di pescatori artigianali, un tempo benestanti, sono gi\u00e0 duramente colpite dalla pesca eccessiva, in gran parte a causa delle flotte industriali sovvenzionate dall\u2019estero, la distruzione inflitta loro dagli impianti fossili su ex zone di pesca, nelle aree marine protette per il recupero delle risorse, attraverso porti e altri<\/span><\/span>\u00a0infrastrutture costiere che rispingono le persone dai loro spazi di lavoro e di vita, tutto ci\u00f2 contribuisce in modo significativo alla negazione dei loro diritti umani fondamentali.” Le donne sono spesso particolarmente colpite poich\u00e9 tendono ad essere sovraccariche di lavoro per lunghe ore, ma a cui viene negato il riconoscimento e la voce.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Offshore oil and gas activity also harms fishers and fishworkers through its climate impacts. Offshore projects have outsized yet largely underreported climate footprints due to emissions from the common industry practice of gas flaring, methane leaks from offshore and coastal infrastructure, and the massive amounts of energy needed to power production operations. They also release enormous quantities of greenhouse gases during transport and through the emissions that are the inescapable consequence of the end use of the produced oil and gas as intended.<\/p>\n

We are happy that the Special Rapporteur will cast a bright light on the need for food security, safe living and working conditions and other basic human rights of small-scale fishers who should be supported and respected as the natural guardians of a healthy ocean and providers of healthy seafood.<\/p>\n
