All new members were welcomed and could outline again their backgrounds and expectations. It became quickly evident that the thematic and geographical mix of the group holds excellent potential to advance the objectives of <em>Mundus maris<\/em> as adapted to the Nigerian context. The group discussed in detail their different proposals for what each existing and new member could contribute with emphasis on judicious use of the complementarities of their skills and experiences.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p>The meeting ended with agreement on a specific work programme focused on the following objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advocacy and support for Value-Added Fish Products in Nigerian Fisheries<\/li>\n<li>Investing in Ocean Literacy with emphasis on Capacity Building, Effective Journalism, and Advocacy with a focus on this year\u2019s UN motto for World Ocean Day: \u201cWonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us\u201d \u2013 World Ocean Day will be celebrated in at least two places in the country<\/li>\n<li>Working with coastal communities affected by water hyacinth by providing them with valuable skills in sustainable utilization, particularly in its conversion to biofuel and crafts.<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening capacities for high quality academic work within the group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_16971\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16971\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16971\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750-200x95.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750-400x189.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750-600x284.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GroupPhotoNigeria750.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Picture showing members and collaborators of <em>Mundus maris<\/em> in Nigeria during a workshop on using a newly introduced kiln for safe food drying.
