The Ambassador of Senegal in Brussels, His Excellency Mr. Saliou Cissé, and the Ambassador of the European Commission in Senegal, His Excellency Mr. Gilles Hervio, were informed in detail about the cooperation between the two schools around the sustainable seas challenge.
The accompanying letter to the Senegalese ambassador invited his support for structural improvements of conditions in the CEM Kayar beyond what outside cooperation can ensure. Read the response of the Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy [in French].
The European ambassador responded with encouragement, even if no specific support to the CEM Kayar is included in the Country Strategy Paper and National Indicative Programme of the European Development Fund negotiated with the government of Senegal. The principal and students of the CEM Kayar have kept the contact with the European School in Uccle, among others, through the student newsletter 'Connection'. Sales income from 'Connection' has been sent to Kayar to facilitate continuation of the cooperation.
The Website of the European School Brussels I in Uccle, Belgium, carries a service about the activities developed to promote sustainable seas together with scientists, artists and schools in Europe and West Africa. Explanations and a photo gallery are available in English and French.
