This brochure summarises key findings of a large international conference in preparation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development convened in September 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The brochure highlights how overfishing has degraded marine ecosystems and living conditions of people living from the fisheries in West Africa and suggests measures to rebuild their productivity and the well-being of societies depending on them.
