Pourquoi devrions-nous \u00eatre concern\u00e9s, m\u00eame si nous ne vivons pas tout pr\u00e8s de la c\u00f4te? Quelques exemples de ce que <em>Mundus maris<\/em> et beaucoup d&rsquo;autres font d\u00e9j\u00e0 pour que les oc\u00e9ans du monde retournent \u00e0 des conditions saines et durables. Que peut-on faire de plus, en termes tr\u00e8s concrets, pour faire en sorte que nos enfants puissent encore profiter de la beaut\u00e9, la splendeur, la nourriture et les services qu\u2019ont fournis les oc\u00e9ans pour les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations ant\u00e9rieures?<\/p>\n<p>Telles \u00e9taient les questions pos\u00e9es dans le discours du Dr Cornelia E Nauen, Pr\u00e9sidente de <em>Mundus maris<\/em>, lors de la r\u00e9union du Groupe d&rsquo;\u00e9tude international dans le Club des femmes am\u00e9ricaines \u00e0 Bruxelles \/ Rhode-Saint-Gen\u00e8se, le 12 novembre 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Initi\u00e9 par Mikal Edwards sur proposition d\u2019Audrey Redmond, le sujet a attir\u00e9 plus de 50 participants, qui ont attentivement suivi le discours. Mikal Edwards a \u00e9galement d\u00e9but\u00e9 la r\u00e9union en accueillant les personnes pr\u00e9sentes et en pr\u00e9sentant le conf\u00e9rencier du jour.<\/p>\n<\/div><div pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le conf\u00e9rencier du jour, Dr Cornelia E Nauen, pr\u00e9sidente de Mundus maris.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p>L&rsquo;orateur a soulign\u00e9 les trois principales menaces suivantes, qui p\u00e8sent sur les oc\u00e9ans :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>La crise mondiale<\/strong> de la p\u00eache avec ses effets de d\u00e9stabilisation et d&rsquo;appauvrissement des r\u00e9seaux trophiques marins et des communaut\u00e9s c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de p\u00eacheurs, sans parler de l&rsquo;impact sur l&rsquo;approvisionnement en produits marins et de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Le changement climatique<\/strong> et ses effets sur l&rsquo;expansion thermique des oc\u00e9ans, qui r\u00e9duit la disponibilit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pour les organismes marins qui respirent par des branchies, et l&rsquo;acidification affectant la capacit\u00e9 des organismes marins, tels que les foraminif\u00e8res (algues planctoniques \u00e0 la base du r\u00e9seau alimentaire), les coraux et autres, pour former leurs squelettes calcaires ;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Les d\u00e9chets marins<\/strong> compos\u00e9s d\u2019environ 80% de plastique avec leurs nombreuses menaces de la vie marine et les hommes qui sont affect\u00e9s par les mol\u00e9cules toxiques \u00e9mises par le plastique \u00e0 travers la cha\u00eene alimentaire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le public a pos\u00e9 des questions \u00e0 fur et \u00e0 mesure que les participants ont d\u00e9couvert de nombreux faits qu&rsquo;ils ignoraient.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-image-element \" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/span><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p>It spoke to their alertness and practical sense that most of the questions focused on the implications for their own future behaviour and decisions as consumers of seafood and holiday makers.<\/p>\n<p>Among the several suggestions for concrete actions were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to support continued work with schools and others in Senegalese and other West African coastal communities;<\/li>\n<li>to support action by fish mongers to stop buying baby fish thanks to spreading the use of the fish ruler;<\/li>\n<li>to support the protection of larger parts of the sea through marine protected areas with potential to help address all major threats at the same time;<\/li>\n<li>to support e.g. the reform of the European Common Fisheries Policy to help implement and enforce international commitments to restore the oceans to a healthy state and promote policies enabling ocean restoration across the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mundusmaris.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/ISG_20121112.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The slides for the talk can be
